JUSTIN ANDERSON

President

Mr. Anderson founded APS GEO and currently serves as president.  Mr. Justin Anderson, PE has been involved in the geotechnical aspects of transportation, water and power projects as a principal engineering, project manager, engineer, and construction administrator.  His experience covers the analysis, design, and construction of deep foundations for bridges, retaining walls, building structures, embankment fills, earth dams, flood control levees, railroad track-beds and bridge approaches, pavements, rock-fall catchments, subgrade stabilization, slope and excavation stability, mine and coal seam location, management of field and laboratory investigations, preparation of geotechnical reports, project specifications, construction plans and cost estimates.   Mr. Anderson has wide-ranging specialized experience in geohazard mitigation across North America.  Mr. Anderson has overseen numerous design-build geotechnical projects in Appalachia and the surrounding area recent years.  He is particularly experienced in geohazard mitigation such as landslide repairs, rockfall hazard mitigation and sinkhole repairs.

PATRICK POEPSEL

Quality Director

Mr. Poepsel has been involved in a variety of geotechnical and civil projects as a project manager, designer, peer reviewer and construction observer. His experience covers the analysis, design, and construction of earthen embankments on soft ground including ground stabilization with rammed aggregate piers, controlled modulus columns, or stone columns, design of deep foundations for bridges and offshore piers for vertical compression, uplift and lateral loading, retaining walls, pavements, building structures, zoned earth dams and flood control levees, management of field and laboratory investigations, and the preparation of geotechnical reports, project specifications, plans and cost estimates. Managed and participated in the construction observation in this type of work.

MATT BIRCHMIER

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Birchmier is a principal and geotechnical engineer with a diverse background of engineering, business and construction operations.  His experience spans most of North America, with a general emphasis and specialization in geohazard mitigation and geostructures.  He has over twenty years in the geotechnical industry with thirteen of those years in the geotechnical design/build construction sector.  His experience covers the executive management, project management, estimating, analysis, design, and construction of slope and excavation stability, deep foundations for bridges, retaining walls, building structures, embankment fills, railroad track-beds and bridge approaches, rock-fall catchments, management of field and laboratory investigations, preparation of geotechnical reports, project specifications, construction plans and cost estimates.

LYNDSIE JANBAKHSH

Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Mrs. Janbakhsh, is a senior geotechnical engineer with experience on transportation, water, and power projects. She has over ten years of professional experience in analysis, design, and construction of deep foundations for bridges, retaining walls, railroad track-beds and bridge approaches, building structures, embankment fills, earth dams, flood control levees, pavements, rock-fall catchments, subgrade stabilization, slope and excavation stability, a management of field and laboratory investigations and preparation of geotechnical reports, project specifications, construction plans and cost estimates.

WILLIAM BASICH

Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Mr. William Basich has practiced geotechnical engineering in the Greater Cincinnati, Southern Ohio, and Kentucky areas for over 25 years. Mr. Basich has consulted on the geotechnical aspects of commercial and residential developments, high and low-rise buildings, state and local municipality projects, roadways, railways, and water and wastewater improvements.  He has extensive experience working in the transportation sector, having been a trusted consultant with both ODOT and KYTC managing numerous
state DOT task order contracts and signature projects.

SUE BEDNARZ

Sr. Engineering Geologist

Mrs. Bednarz has over 27 years of experience as a Certified Engineering Geologist providing information for the design, construction, and maintenance of railroads, tunnels, pipelines, dams, pump stations, shafts, highways, bridges, light rail, and other structures at over 250 sites throughout the United States. She has also performed geologic mapping and modeling of numerous landslides in Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, and Wyoming. In addition to her work with federal, state, and local transportation agencies, Ms. Bednarz’s construction management experience includes providing geologic expertise to the City of Portland during the construction of three major CSO tunnel projects in Oregon, providing landslide repair and quarry mining expertise to UPRR and serving as tunnel inspector during construction. She has participated in condition assessment inspections of nine major water and hydroelectric tunnels in Washington, California, and Connecticut, in addition to inspections of rail and highway tunnels.

STEVE ANDERSON

Safety/Compliance

Mr. Anderson has over 40 years of experience as a general manager.  His areas of expertise include management, project management, budget planning, fleet management, equipment sourcing and maintenance.  He currently serves as safety and compliance lead for the company.

MATT WILLIAMS

Principal Civil Engineer

Mr. Matt Williams has extensive experience in design and project management in a multitude of disciplines including but not limited to conceptual layouts, preliminary and detailed design of sanitary and storm sewer systems, hydraulics and hydrology, aviation, transportation, rail, bridges, power & energy, dams, landslides, site development, grading, abandoned mine lands, project specifications, construction plans, and cost estimates.  Matt excels in client management and has the skills and knowledge capable of producing a project on-time and within budget.  He is also an active member in the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Bluegrass Chapter of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers.

RYAN JOHNSON

Drilling and Survey Manager

Mr. Johnson has over 20 years of service in land surveying and subsurface exploration.  He currently serves a dual role as operations manager for drilling as well as land surveying.  Mr. Johnson has worked on a broad scope of projects in geotechnical, land surveying, mining and civil projects including but not limited to geotechnical investigation for highway and bridge design, municipal annexation surveys, private and public land boundary surveys, coal reserve evaluation, heavy highway construction surveying, operations management of geotechnical drilling, oil and gas drilling, earthwork, and surveying endeavors

MARTY WOODARD

Sr. Engineering Geologist and Engineer

Dr. Woodard is a professional engineer and engineering geologist whose experience includes investigation, design, and implementation of remediation techniques for unstable soil and rock slopes. He has significant experience in rock slope stability, rock slope rating systems, subsurface geology and geotechnical interpretation, landslide investigations, foundation analysis, and geologic reconnaissance. His expertise is in rock mass characterization, rock slope engineering and rock mechanics. Marty has a B.A in Geology from the State University of New York at Potsdam College, M.S. in Environmental and Engineering Geosciences from Radford University (Virginia), and a Ph.D. in Engineering Geology from Kent State University in Ohio. He has authored the Rockfall Hazard Rating Matrix and Rock Slope Design Manual for the Ohio Department of Transportation and is on numerous national committees and organizations that involve geohazard professionals. He has worked throughout the United States, Canada, and South and Central America.
